I created this monoprint by placing a simple sketch under heavy glass on my work table, painting onto the glass, and then pressing the paint onto the card using a roller.  I let one color dry completely before doing the next pressing.  The results are gratifying.  The gesso coating I prepped the cards with absorbs some paints and seems to repel others. Some paint smears when I roll it, some doesn't.  It's an interesting process that will keep me engaged for awhile.  I did eight in this couples series initially, but saved the drawing so I can do more later.  Check out the complete Couples series.

One of the Pebble Beach car shows has a locals-see-it-free exhibition along Ocean Avenue in Carmel on the Thursday before the weekend event.  I went to the 2002 event with camera in hand, and I guess the cloud cover lifted and the light was right. I found myself fascinated by little things, like the intricate details on some of the cars, or how cypress trees or buildings reflected off a car's highly waxed surface.  Or, in the case of this photo, the torn canvas on a wheel cover.  So I shot a lot of pictures that have been sitting on some hard drive or other for the past eight years.  I've recently been going through my treasure trove of mostly never shown photos on a hunt for good images for cards, and Cars is my first greeting card photo series.  I took some artistic license in editing them, such as standing a fender on end, but the images are all recognizable elements if you look closely.  Please check out the complete Cars series.

my new card series

Back in 2002, I shot photos of antique cars on display along Ocean Avenue in Carmel.  I guess the fog had lifted that day and the light was right, and I became fascinated with things like reflections of cypress trees in shiny fenders, torn wheel coverings, and abstract formations in aged and well worn paint.  These photos have been sitting on some hard drive or another for the past eight years, but I've been on a hunt recently for good 100% Art images, and Cars is my first greeting card photo series.  Please check it out.
